For the Spring Season Games will be played all days of the week. You must monitor your email. If you have not umpired at Oak Hill, please register. If you have never umpired or only have a little experience, you must attend an umpire clinic. Please take a flier and/or attend the clinic(s) on ___________ ---- (Pinto at 8:00 am and Two-Man at 10:00am). Young guys (12 to older teenager) expect to do Pinto to start. Older guys (older teenager and up) can take the Two-Man Clinic. Therefore, some of you mid to older teenagers may want to take both clinics. I will not have you umpire in the league just below your playing league. If you are in this for a quick paycheck, don't bother - Your lack of hustle will give you away - you must want to umpire and do a great job! Go on to the oakhillumpires.com web site, click on Signup Link, and sign up your availability a week before the game week. The Signup Link will probably not be up until Monday, the week before game week. So, try to sign up real early in the week before games. Once you click on the Signup Link, signup for the days you are available. For instance, click on the Monday Tuesday Link, then on the appropriate day, fill out your availability (name, time available, and league). YOU MUST CLICK ON SUBMIT. Also, enter your name at the bottom of the list - DO NOT ENTER YOUR NAME IN AN EMPTY SLOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NAMES (IT WILL NOT GET SEEN). Finally - DO NOT ERASE ANYBODY'S NAME - We can tell who did it and that person will not like what we do about it! Of course, you may also click on the Wednesday Thursday Link, the Friday Saturday Link, or the Sunday Link. I will make assignments by the end of the week and send out by email and it will also be posted on the Game Assignments Link. You MUST check this if you signed up (by late Friday or even early Saturday morning). You MUST make your games if assigned (be there 15 minutes ahead of time - Know the field you are assigned). You MUST call and "talk" to me if you can't make the game. Games begin March 17 ....... If you have not umpired before, and you get a Pinto game, I will assign a Mentor for you. We operate from the Official (major league) Baseball Rules (OBR); which are supplemented by the Pony Rules; which are supplemented by the Oak Hill Supplemental Rules (Bluebook). All of these can be found on the umpire web page. You must become very familiar with the Pony Rules and the Oak Hill Supplemental Rules for the league that you umpire (the OBR is a life time work in progress). Click on "Oak Hill Umpire Info and Policies" and read the Pinto or Two-Man Clinic (don't read the Two-Man mechanics if you don't do the Two-Man clinic); Read Game Prep; Umpires Guidelines: General Umpire Info; Favoritism; Bad Weather/Rainout; and about Coaches and Fans. Also, might want to check out the Myth link on both pages and take the Quiz for fun a few times, to help get ready for the fast pace of the games. You will score lower than you think. You will need an indicator or clicker at the clinics and a navy blue umpire shirt for your games (Pinto guys can wear any color of umpire shirt, as they do not have a partner - Two-Man guys should ensure that they match, and most guys have navy). Pinto and Mustang guys can wear nice shorts. Bronco and up should wear grey slacks, black shoes, dark socks, black belt, black or blue hat. |
