General For the Spring season, sign up your available times by Friday noon and check for assignments by Sunday 6:00 pm for the next week's assignments. For Fall, sign up by Tuesday noon and check for assignments by Friday 6:00 pm for that week. Be responsible (make your game - be there early, at least 15 minutes before game time, ready to go). When you get to the game, let the coaches know you are there. Make sure they each have or are completing their infield, and it will be done on time. If you can not make a game, let me know ASAP! Know the rules, Major League, Pony, and Supplements. Know your game time, and specific league's game duration time, runs per inning, run rule.............. Dress: Umpire's dark blue shirt; well kept pants/shorts (no bell
bottoms);
belt Meet with the other umpire(s) and discuss signs. Meet with head coaches and discuss any special instructions. Communicate with your other umpire, during the game and in between each half inning, if necessary. Ensure you are on same page. Look and Be professional - Represent Oak Hill with class and act the part. Keep head in game, use signs, do not fold arms or put hands in pocket, hustle to position, stop to make the call, be loud, sell your call but do not show up a player or coach. Do not make the call too soon - always give yourself one to two seconds. Be consistent. Watch the ball, do not anticipate a play. Be accommodating and respectful to the coaches, grant conferences and listen to the issue and try to resolve fairly. Do not be afraid to conference. Stay under control, do not eject a coach without a warning, use bench restriction when ever you can. When the violation is minor, it might be best to warn the player before calling a balk, interference, etc. Allow eight warm up pitches for new pitcher, meanwhile locate
scorekeeper,
check if field umpire(s) ready, start game (Play), indicate game start
time to
scorekeeper and coaches, point to pitcher to begin game. Allow five warm
up
pitches before each inning for returning pitcher. Ten pitches for cold
pitcher.
After foul or dead ball and time out, point to pitcher to start game
(needs to
be on the rubber, batter and catcher ready to go). Know infield fly
rule,
situations and give signs. Know game ending situations, score, time to
go, run
rule, etc. |
