2 - MAN CLINIC Know the rules, read the Supplement, know game time (start and duration) and when open inning begins. Be at the field ready to go (dressed for the plate) no later than 15 minutes before the start time and let the coaches know you are there. Before game find scorekeeper and let them know that you will be checking with them on number of runs each inning (there may be a run limit) and be prepared if you ask the count. Discuss your signs with the other umpire. Both have clickers. Have a pre-game meeting with the Head Coaches, tell them 8 warm up pitches for new pitcher; otherwise, 5 pitches for returning pitcher. Tell coaches/scorekeeper game start time. Check field umpire ready. Call "play", point to pitcher. Take your positions: - Field Umpire - Runner at first - B position - on the grass behind the mound, half way between the pitching plate and second base, on the first base side of a line from the right side of the home plate and the edge of the mound. You have pick off and steal. Make the call at first or second. Stay out of way of ball. You have LF to RF fly ball. Plate has fly ball from LF-RF to the foul lines and tag up at first. Runner at all other positions - C position - same as B position but on the third base side. You have pick off and steal. Make call at first, second or first play at third (plate has second play at third if third was empty). Stay out of way of ball. You have LF to RF fly ball. Line up with runner at second. Plate has fly ball from LF-RF to the foul lines and tag up at first and third. Give signs, know your situations, infield fly rule, and fly ball responsibilities. In the infield, Watch the ball, not the play! Don't watch the ball in the outfield. Delay your calls, Be LOUD - Sell your call. Don't be theatrical! Be respectful!
